John Trent, Ph.D.
Dr. Trent is President and Founder of StrongFamilies.com and The Center for StrongFamilies in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is a best-selling author of numerous books and journal articles. His co-authored book, The Blessing, is a million seller and Gold Medallion winner for excellence in Christian publishing. Dr. Trent has conducted his “StrongFamilies in Stressful Times Seminar” in churches across America. Over the past seven years, Dr. Trent has spoken to over 60,000 people in over 65 major cities across our country. In addition, he has spoken to over 700,000 men at Promise Keepers conferences in stadium events across the United States. He is a regular featured speaker for corporate America and has been the featured guest on Oprah, Jim Dobson,and many other radio and television shows.

   

FRIDAY MORNING PLENARY SESSION

"What are Bodies For?: Exploring the Implications of Embodiment"

Elizabeth Hall, Ph.D.
Dr. Hall, originally from Argentina, is an Associate Professor at the Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University and Staff Psychologist at the Biola Counseling Center in La Mirada, California. She is a popular speaker and has published many journal articles and book chapters, including a chapter in the soon to be published, Spirituaity and the therapeutic process: A guide for therapists. Dr. Hall is an “at large” member of the Board of Directors of Division 36 (Psychology of Religion) of the American Psychological Association; and recently served as the Academic representative to the Board of Directors of CAPS.

   

FRIDAY LUNCHEON PLENARY SESSION
"Wounded Healers: Suffering and Stress-Related Growth"

Siang Yang Tan, Ph.D.
Dr Tan, originally from Singapore, is a licensed psychologist and Professor of Psychology in the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He has published articles on lay counseling and lay counselor training, intrapersonal integration and spirituality, religious psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy, epilepsy, pain, and cross-cultural counseling with Asians and Hispanics, as well as authored twelve books. He was the 1999 recipient of the Distinguished Member Award from the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) International and the 2002 recipient of the William Bier Award for outstanding and sustained contributions from Division 36 (Psychology of Religion) of APA. He was President of Division 36 of the American Psychological Association (1998-1999). He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Psychology and Christianity. Dr. Tan currently serves as Senior Pastor of First Evangelical Church Glendale in Glendale, California.

   

SATURDAY MORNING PLENARY SESSION

"Distorted Body Image and Eating Disorders”"

Debbie Hawker, Ph.D.
Dr. Hawker is a world renown expert on eating disorders, having published numerous journal articles and recently concluded (as principal investigator) several longitudinal
studies (1997-2006) of eating disorders at Oxford University, England. She holds both the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (University of Wales, Bangor) and Ph.D. in Psychology (University of Keele) degrees. Dr. Hawker is also a consulting clinical psychologist for InterHealth, a clinic for aid workers and missionaries. She provides psychological assessments, personal and group debriefing, consultations, and treatment for InterHealth and other organizations like World Vision, VSO, British Red Cross, Oxfam, Tearfund, INF, InterServe, Baptist Missionary Society, Operation Mobilisation, AIM, Latin Link and Youth With A Mission. Debbie and her husband, David (also a psychologist) own and run a respite care, consulting and training center for humanitarian and missionary workers.

   

SATURDAY BANQUET
"Worlds We Have Lost: Recovering Ancient Sources of Soul-Care for Today"

Darryl Tippens, Ph.D.
Dr. Tippens is the Provost and Professor of English at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He is the author of several books, including Shadow and Light: Literature and the Life of Faith, and most recently, Pilgrim Heart: The Way of Jesus in Everyday Life. Dr. Tippens serves on the editorial boards of two periodicals, New Wineskins and Explorations in Renaissance Culture. He is a frequent contributor to a variety of publications, and enjoys researching, writing about, and teaching the literature of the English Renaissance, and the Bible as literature. Dr. Tippens also has strong interest in contemporary culture and film, serving on the board of the City of Angels Film Festival (Los Angeles) and a founder of the new film festival, the Malibu Celebration of Film.

Darryl Delhousaye, D.Min.
Dr. Delhousaye is the President of Phoenix Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona. He served as Senior Pastor for Scottsdale Bible Church from 1981-2006. He is a frequent speaker at ministry events and contributor to religious periodicals; among his books are: Servant Leadership, Ask Pastor Darryl: 121 Answers to Frequently Asked Bible Questions, Study Notes on the Book of Acts, and Today for Eternity.
