THURSDAY EVENING OPENING PLENARY SESSION
“Lessons for Christian Psychologists from the Broader Christian Academy”

Dr. Jones has written many books, book chapters, and articles. His two most recent books were published by InterVarsity Press in fall of 2000: Eric Johnson & Stanton Jones, Psychology and Christianity: Four views (recently described in the Christian Scholar’s Review as the most important book on psychology and Christianity published in the last 15 years), and Stanton Jones & Mark Yarhouse, Homosexuality: The use of scientific research in the Church’s moral debate. His article, “A constructive relationship for religion with the science and profession of psychology: Perhaps the boldest model yet,” was a call for greater respect for and cooperation with religion by secular psychologists and appeared in the March, 1994, issue of the American Psychologist, the flagship journal of the discipline of psychology. Dr. Jones has published over 60 chapters in edited books and/or articles in such journals as Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Behavior Therapy, Journal of Studies on Alcohol, Journal of Psychology and Theology, Behavior Modification, Addictive Behaviors, and Journal of Psychology and Christianity.

   

FRIDAY MORNING PLENARY SESSION
“Making A Good Brain Great”

Dr. Amen is a clinical neuroscientist; board certified child and adult psychiatrist, and the medical director of Amen Clinics, Incorporated, or ACI, in Newport Beach and Fairfield, California, Tacoma, Washington and Reston, Virginia. Dr. Amen is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where he teaches medical students and psychiatric residents brain imaging, brain injury, biofeedback, hypnosis and Attention Deficit Disorder. Dr. Amen has been published around the world and currently writes a monthly column for Men’s Health Magazine called “Head Check.” In addition, he has written for Newsweek and Parade Magazine. Together with Leeza Gibbons, Dr. Amen appeared on a show called The Truth About Drinking, on alcohol education for teenagers, which won an Emmy Award for the Best Educational Television Show. In 1999, Random House published Dr. Amen’s book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, which has been on the New York Times bestseller list and is translated into 12 languages. He is also the author of Healing ADD, Healing the Hardware of the Soul, and Healing Anxiety and Depression. Dr. Amen’s new book, Preventing Alzheimers, was published in April 2004.

   

FRIDAY LUNCHEON PLENARY SESSION
“A Christian Critique of Counselling”

Dr. Campolo is the founder and President of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education (EAPE), an organization devoted to nurturing and supporting programs for “at-risk” children in cities across North America, and helping establish schools and universities in developing countries. Dr. Campolo is a media commentator on religious, social and political matters, having guested on television programs like Nightline, Crossfire, Politically Incorrect, The Charlie Rose Show, Larry King Live and CNN News. He co-hosted his own television series, “Hashing It Out”, on the Odyssey Network, and presently hosts “From Across The Pond”, a weekly program on the Premier Radio Network in England. The author of 32 books, his most recent titles are Speaking My Mind. Let Me Tell You a Story: Life Lessons From Unexpected Places and Unlikely People (WORD); The Survival Guide for Christians on Campus, co-authored by Will Willimon (Howard); and Which Jesus?: Choosing Between Love and Power. Dr. Campolo is an ordained minister, has served American Baptist Churches in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is presently recognized as an associate pastor of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in West Philadelphia.

   

SATURDAY MORNING PLENARY SESSION
“Temple Care: Furthering the Integration of Spirituality and Health Psychology”

Dr. Chisolm teaches undergraduate psychology courses, and has helped develop the foundation for a campus counseling center that will provide services for students and the community. She is a highly sought speaker, both on campus and in the community. Dr. Chisolm is involved in Rochester's “Multicultural and Diversity Committee” which exists to promote: the integration of diverse representation, diversity sensitivity, and cultivation of a campus climate that celebrates and supports diversity. Her master’s thesis dealt with “Body Cathexis and the Ideal Female Figure Among Black and White College Females” and her doctoral dissertation looked at “The Relationship between Spiritual Well-Being and Psychological Well-Being”.

   

SATURDAY EVENING BANQUET SESSION
“Weep with Those Who Weep, Celebrate with Those Who Celebrate”

Dr. Clark is a familiar face to CAPS, as she served on the International Board for six years and has been on the CAPS Midwest Regional Board since 1982. Mary has been the CAPS Midwest Regional Director since 1990. Mary was the recipient of the CAPS Distinguished Member Award in 1990. She is a popular speaker at local and national conferences, and has done workshops on eating disorders on the international level. Dr. Clark is the author of the book Hiding, Hurting, Healing, was a contributor to the Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology, and was the guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Psychology and Christianity in 2001.

   

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP SPEAKER
“Passing the Torch/Keeping the Faith: Mentoring with Spiritual Companions”

Dr. Barshinger is the Director of Cherry Hill Center for Psychotherapy, which he co-founded in 1976. He taught in the Psychology Department at Trinity College, Deerfield, Illinois from 1970 to 1980, and served as that department's chair for part of his tenure. He has a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, as well as an M.Div. from McCormick Theological Seminary. Dr. Barshinger served as the CAPS Midwest Regional Director from 1982-1985. He has co-authored two books, Haunted Marriage and Pathways to Lifestyle Change: D.I.E.T., as well as numerous professional articles and book chapters.
